Dogs are tick magnets and a single dog can be infested by hundreds of ticks in just a few hours when outdoors. Ticks can carry a number of pathogens that can be transmitted to your pet. Preventing ticks from getting on your dog and biting is key!

Ticks most often infest your dog during outdoor activity but some species are adapted to dry environments such as your home or kennels. Tick bites can transmit serious diseases, such as Lyme disease. Babesiosis (also called piroplasmosis) is another tick-borne disease, which attacks the dog’s red blood cells.  It can be a fatal disease due to the possibility of severe anaemia developing.

After every walk, check your dog’s coat, especially around the head, ears and neck.  Unfed ticks are very small and can go unnoticed so make sure to carefully check your pet and yourself.  Always remove a tick with care as soon as you see it, and clean around the site of the bite with an antiseptic wipe (such as DOUXO S3 PYO Pads).
